HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD USE ORGANIC POTS!

Alert!!!

The statement following will drive you crazy. Gardening is an art. Yes, you read it right. Hmm. Don’t believe me? Let me explain.

According to Wikipedia, Art is something that stimulates an individual's thoughts, emotions, beliefs, or ideas through the senses.

Or in general, according to me, art is something related to creative ideas and contemporary interests that when performed or exercised gives pleasure to the human mind.

Gardening - an artform:

Well, if you relate music, dance or painting with how art is defined, it seems to hold good. But then, how do I call gardening an art? Here are the facts that suffice.

Gardening is no more a hobby. Just like how music, dance, painting has evolved and grown over the time, gardening also has. Still have doubts?

Modern day gardening is so unimaginably developed that nowadays it is possible even-if-you-do-not-have-a-garden.

True, isn’t it? Nowadays, a lot of environmentally aware people are trying to grow things in their home, but the thing is they don’t have a garden. But, this has not deprived them to grow a plant at their home. Thanks to modern solutions.

Hundred years ago, if you have heard words like terrace gardening and kitchen gardening, it would have been quite hilarious. Whereas now, it is in trend. Anything and everything you need to grow any plant whatsoever is available in a click.

It is true that we can buy what is necessary, but we have to put in the right proportions in the perfect oven to bake the cake, if gardening was baking. Remember, gardening is no normal skill to practice, for it is an artform which is to be mastered!

Focus for the day:

A lot is involved here to make it a success in your garden, namely the seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, etc. But, in this article our primary focus is on the pots. What is there? Let’s see.

There are a lot of pots available now in the market for helping us with in-home gardening. There are a lot of ceramic pots and plastic pots apart from the traditional terracotta pots, which we seldom spot nowadays.

Though these alternatives come at an attractive price, it has some limitations too. It is quite obvious that plastic, however helpful it is, always has its own drawbacks.

In the case of kitchen gardening, people generally grow small veggies like brinjals, lady fingers and more. What if I told you that if you grow these in plastic pots they discharge toxic elements in the soil and in turn affect the plant that you are growing to consume?

And in the case of terrace gardening, what if I told you that your flowers don’t bloom as you think they should just because of the rapid temperature change in the plastic pots and due to lack of pores in them?

Sadly, both are true. Also, plastic pots and ceramic pots are hard to dispose of, apart from having disadvantages like affecting the plants’ health, biomagnification(accumulation of a chemical by an organism from water and food exposure) etc.

Stats say that at least 65% of the households in Indian metropolitan cities grow a minimum of 1 plant in their households. This itself is a huge number to be concerned about.

Better alternatives?

Coir pots. Have you heard of them? These are one of the best alternatives in our case. They are made out of coconut wires. Obviously, they come from nature and are purely organic. They are also known as coco-coir pots. Being biodegradable and na tural, they suit excellently well for growing your medium sized plant in your home.

They are purely natural and are very affordable too. Also, they are easy to dispose of and maintain the temperature of the soil. Thereby, it regulates the moisture of the soil, which is responsible for the healthy growth of most of the plants.

Conclusion:

So, it is so vital that we need to invest some of our thoughts here and plant the facts about growing plants in pots, in our brain. Come let us switch to such greener alternatives and do our part of saving the Earth for the future generations.
